TV LAMPS: A 1950s PHENOMENON

TV lamps emerged in the 1950s as color televisions infiltrated homes across the world. People were concerned that the bright, flashing lights on their TV screens might damage their eyesight. So to reduce the burden on their vision, they placed decorative lamps next to their TVs.

Even if TV lamps weren't terribly effective from a medical standpoint, they became a household decor staple. And thanks to their unique appearance and bizarre backstory, they are still desirable to this day.

A company called Texans Incorporated was one of the foremost manufacturers of TV lamps. They teamed up with a designer named Howard Kron to create several compelling designs over the years.

Here are three of our favorites:

1. The Pair of Siamese Cats

It's easy to see why this feline duo was (and still is) in high demand. They are posed adorably, and when the lamp is turned on, their eyes glow and make this lamp a must-have. We are thrilled to offer you one from our collection.

2. The Poodle and the Pug

Just look at those faces. This lamp has the makings of a delightful children's book, where these two lovable pooches are the best of friends.

3. The Steer Head

A love letter to the west, this brass and turquoise lamp provides the perfect balance of timeless regality and desert chic.
